DingsplatZ!

DingsplatZ is not exactly a tangle, but rather a whimsical loopy framework on which you add other tangles.  It seems so simple at first, and yet the possibilities are endless.  Go geometric, go floral, go regular repeats, go wild!

I first came across DingsplatZ in a Kitchen Table Tangles video published by Rick and Maria (the founders of Zentangle).  Check out this cute story about the origin of DingsplatZ and a link to the video mentioned.

When first exposed to it months ago, my initial reaction was kind of "meh".  I wasn't quite ready to embrace the whimsy and didn't see enough of the possibilities.  However during my CZT seminar earlier this month, one of the tiles we drew together used a DingsplatZ structure. After looking at a mosaic of nearly 500 students seminar tiles, I was ready to look at DingsplatZ with new eyes!

Now it seems I can't get enough of them and I'm working on a new class featuring the DingsplatZ structure.  which one of these examples would you most like to see in a class? Click the image below for a close up view.

Curious how a DingsplatZ tile is drawn? Check out this fun time-lapse video!
